Pinto Beans

Kidney Beans

Red beans

Onion

Ham Chunks

Garlic

Black Pepper

Salt

Take the beans and place them in a pot with boiling water then cover the pot.

Let the beans soak in the boiling water for about 15 min.

Set the pot aside away from the fire.

The beans need a few hours to soak.

The boiling water really speeds up the soaking time.

Place the pot on the fire and heat up the water again.

While the water is heating cut up the country ham chunks then add them to the pot.

If you are using country ham you do not need to add salt.

Dice some onion and place in the pot

Crush some fresh garlic and add to the pot.

Add some black pepper.

The beans will cook slowly. Stir the pot and add water as needed.

As the beans grow softer the water in the pot will thicken up.

Note you may use different kind of beans if you may wish for location and time of year.
